Nihalter Hanım

Nihalter Hanım, whose date of birth has not been identified, was the wife of İbrahim Paşa, who retired from the command of the Seventh Urfa Liva of the Redif Cavalry of the Fourth Army.

Her husband’s title is connected with the cavalry organization in eastern and southeastern Anatolia during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II. The need for mounted reserve forces in the region of the Fourth Army was one of the reasons behind the establishment of the Hamidiye Light Cavalry Regiments.

By 1897 the Hamidiye Cavalry Regiments had been divided into seven livas, and the Urfa liva was one of the centres with an existing command within this organization.

Nihalter Hanım died on the day after Friday, 16 Dhu al-Qa‘da 1328, corresponding to 19 November 1910, and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
