Rüveyde Hanım

Hatice Rüveyde Hanımefendi, whose date of birth has not been identified, was the wife of Ahmed Amiş Efendi, the tomb caretaker of Mehmed the Conqueror. Ahmed Amiş Efendi came from Tırnova to Istanbul, served at the tomb of Mehmed the Conqueror and became one of the Şâbânî-Halvetî sheikhs who left a deep mark on late Ottoman Sufi circles in Istanbul. He left Tırnova after the Ottoman-Russian War of 1877-1878 and became known in Istanbul as the tomb caretaker of Fatih.

Rüveyde Hanımefendi appears in sources under the name Hatice Rüveyde Hanım. The fact that she is referred to as “cici” in the circle of the Amişnâme shows that she held a place in family memory not only as the wife of a sheikh, but also as a woman remembered with affection by those close to her.

Hatice Rüveyde Hanımefendi died in 1924 and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
