Salahaddin Efendi, who must have been born in 1863 according to the information that he died at the age of 30, was the son of Mehmed Ârif Efendi of Alâiye (Alanya), deputy judge of central Adana.
Salahaddin Efendi received his early education at the Saki Ali Paşa Primary School, studied Arabic and Persian with private teachers, and then attended the Mekteb-i Nüvvâb, which trained judges and deputy judges.
He began his official career in early 1884 in the criminal office of the court of first instance in Istanbul. He served as assistant public prosecutor in İçel (Mersin), Urfa and İzmit. Salahaddin Efendi, who also taught for a time in madrasas, was appointed Assistant Public Prosecutor of the Konya Court of First Instance in 1889.
Salahaddin Efendi died on 19 Ramadan 1310 (6 April 1893) and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
Epitaph
He is the Eternal. He had reached thirty years of age, the full-moon stage of maturity. Alas for that sun of virtue, knowledge and intelligence. People of heart weep and moan over his loss. His good character and words are now on everyone’s tongue. He fell into the sea of Allah’s mercy and went to Paradise. In sorrow and tears, Lâmih spoke the jeweled date of death: "Alas! Salahaddin Efendi vanished from sight."
