Şeyh Ali Talib Efendi

Şeyh Ali Tâlib Efendi, whose exact date of birth is unknown, was born in Rhodes.

Ali Tâlib Efendi, one of the Naqshbandi-Khalidi sheikhs, was among the late-period postnişins of the Murad Molla Lodge, which stood out in 19th-century Istanbul in both scholarly and Sufi circles.

Murad Molla Lodge in Fatih/Çarşamba was a lively center of learning known for lessons in Qur’anic sciences, Arabic, Persian and the Mesnevî. This circle, which the famous late Ottoman statesman Ahmed Cevdet Paşa also attended in his youth, was known as one of the important centers bringing together the scholarly and Sufi networks of the period.

Ali Tâlib Efendi took over the sheikhship of the lodge after Şeyh Mehmed Ârif Efendi and continued this duty until his death.

Şeyh Ali Tâlib Efendi died on 9 Dhu al-Qa‘da 1311 (14 May 1894) and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
