Süleyman Sermed Bey

Süleyman Sermed Bey, whose date of birth could not be determined, was one of the late Ottoman officials belonging to the notable and dynastic circles of Siroz.

Süleyman Sermed Bey served as Director of the Grain Customs, known to have been located around Galata in the 19th century.

The Grain Customs was a unit within Istanbul’s customs structure especially connected with the entry and exit procedures for grain and foodstuffs. The provisioning of Istanbul, that is, meeting the basic food needs of the population, was long considered a sensitive matter in Ottoman administration; the grain trade, transport and customs procedures were important parts of this system.

El-Hac Süleyman Sermed Bey died in 1320 in the Hijri calendar / 1318 in the Rumi calendar (1902) and was buried in the Fatih Mosque Cemetery.
