Changes After Construction
After the Jesuits left Turkey, the building and its plot were transferred to the Treasury.
From the 1970s onward, the Syriac Catholic community that came to Istanbul began to use the building for worship after repairing the structure, which was in a ruined condition at the time.
In 1997, the building was allocated free of charge to the relevant foundation for 99 years; the process later turned into a long-term legal dispute.
In 2018, under the decision that expanded the practice of free-of-charge allocation, the building was allocated free of charge for 49 years.

The building is also known as the “Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart) Church” and the “Church of the Syriac Catholic Patriarchal Vicariate.”
