Changes After Construction
It suffered great damage in the earthquakes of 1648 and 1754, its minaret collapsed, and was repaired together with the Muezzin's gallery in 1763-64.
It underwent extensive restoration between 1933 and 1944.
Maintenance and repair operations were carried out in 2007.
Featured Highlights
The mosque, which has a square plan and a single dome, is illuminated by the windows on the dome drum. The building, with its simple and elegant appearance, is one of the early works of Mimar Sinan in the 16th century.
There are tile decorations on the windows of the five-part narthex. Some of the tile pediments of the windows have been moved to the museum today.
Its mihrab is made of plain marble with stone carvings and is decorated with tile panels. Its marble minbar, muqarnas door and inlaid door wings are rare examples of 16th century Turkish workmanship.
To the west of the mosque is the shrine of Ibrahim Pasha, to the north is a cemetery and a fountain without an inscription.
