Changes After Construction

  1. It was built in 1899 on the site of a mosque that had previously burned down.

  2. In 1993, a basement floor with an entrance from the narthex was added in order toincrease the congregational capacity of the mosque.

  3. The primary school located to the east of the mosque has disappeared over time, andonly its marble inscription has survived to the present day.

  4. The square fountain located next to the mosque lost its former function due to urbanplanning and fell into disrepair over time.

  5. Instead of the original basin, a new basin made of brick and concrete was added to thefountain.

Featured Highlights

  • It is also known as the “Hasan Pasha Mosque” or “Kaptan Hasan Pasha Mosque”.

  • It is a square plan building with a dome on the inside and a tiled roof on the outside.

  • Above the door of the narthex, there is the signature of Sultan Abdulhamid II within arose bouquet in relief.

  • The mihrab is located between the marble columns in the interior.

  • It is decorated with hand-drawn ornaments and the dome has a sliced appearance withgilded strips coming out of the star in the middle. These slices are decorated with Rumi-palmette and naturalist flower motifs.

  • There are curtain tassel decorations on the upper parts of the qibla and side walls.

  • The minaret emerging from the women's gallery is in the Empire style; its vertically flutedbody resembles a column, and its balcony is decorated with acanthus leaves andvolutes, giving it the appearance of a Corinthian column capital.

  • The mosque location among triangular roads offers a remarkable location.

  • In the past, there was a primary school and a square fountain in the courtyard of themosque; however, only some ruins have survived to the present day.
