It was built in 1891 as the residence of Yeğya Şahbazyan, an Armenian industrialist from the local community.
At the very beginning of the 20th century, it passed to the Treasury.
The building, transferred to the Treasury, became Hoca İshak Efendi Zükur Numune School in 1912.
The building, which suffered severe damage in the fires of 1982 and 1984, was repaired shortly afterward and continued its educational life.
The historic building underwent a comprehensive restoration process in 2019.

Since 2012, the building has been used as an Imam Hatip Secondary School, and it also served under the names Beyoğlu 1st School and Hoca İshak Efendi Primary School.
Overlooking the Golden Horn from an elevated point, the building has a masonry structure. On its upper floor, there are two balconies, and at its entrance, there is a double-flight staircase and a columned support arrangement.
In front of the historic building, there is a cistern one metre wide.
