The school was established in 1931; the land was expropriated, and the first building was constructed the same year.
From its establishment until 1949, the school was known as “34th Primary School”; in 1949, the name “Karaahmetpaşa” was assigned to the school.
In 1964, “Karaahmetpaşa 2 Primary School” was incorporated into the newly constructed building of İbrahim Alaettin Gövsa Primary School.
In 1987, a secondary school with the same name was established in the building of İbrahim Alaettin Gövsa Primary School and began education.
In 1990, the primary and secondary school administrations were merged, and the school gained the status of “İbrahim Alaettin Gövsa Primary Education School.”
Block A, damaged in the Marmara earthquake, was demolished; the current building constructed in its place opened for education on 3 November 2008.
In August 2009, Block B was arranged as a separate kindergarten.
