It was built in 1847 under the name Saint Jean Baptiste French School.
The building, one of the first schools opened by the Frères Society in Türkiye, took the name Taksim Boys’ High School in 1937 as a Turkish school.
Built in 1847 as a single-storey structure with two classrooms, the building took its present form over time with the addition of two more storeys.
In 2000, the Istanbul Atatürk High School Alumni Foundation carried out a comprehensive renovation process in the school building.

The school, which carried out educational activities under the names Beyoğlu Atatürk Anatolian High School and Taksim Atatürk High School, became an important educational institution in the process extending from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic.
During Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s visit to the area in 1930, his warning to the authorities by saying, “Gentlemen, should there not be a Turkish school here?” was recorded in history as an important statement.
Among its graduates are important names such as Mehmet Barlas, Doğan Babacan, Kadir Topbaş, Sezen Cumhur Önal, Atilla Özdemiroğlu, and Ediz Hun.
