Featured Highlights

  • It is also known by the name Etyemez Lodge.

  • The lodge is among the important centers of the Sadi order in Istanbul.

  • Its first postnişin was Sheikh Seyyid Hacı Mehmed Ziyade Efendi.

  • The name “Kadem-i Şerif” came into use through the association of the lodge with the footprint (kadem-i şerif) attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). According to tradition, this stone, upon which the Prophet is believed to have stepped during a trade caravan journey to Damascus, was later taken to the Citadel of Bosra. In 1784, by order of Abdülhamid I, it was brought from Damascus to Istanbul carried above the head by Muhammed Ziyade Efendi.

  • The tevhidhane, harem, selamlık, fountain, and cemetery section were recorded as the main components of the lodge complex.
