Changes After Construction
It was built within the Kalyoncu Barracks campus by Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Pasha, the Grand Admiral (Naval Commander) of the period.
All expenses of the campus, which has the distinction of being the first modern barracks of the Ottoman Empire, were covered by Gazi Hasan Pasha.
The minaret of the mosque, built in the central courtyard of the campus that included units such as a barracks, school, prison, and shops, was added by order of Sultan Abdülhamid I.
The mosque, which underwent repairs and renovations in 1883 and 1963, was reconstructed in 2017 by the Istanbul Governorship Investment Monitoring and Coordination Directorate.

The mosque, consisting of two floors, has masonry and timber construction.
It contains valuable calligraphic inscriptions, most of which preserve their originality and bear the signatures of the famous calligraphers of the period, Laz Ömer Vasfi Efendi and Osman Hilmi Efendi.
Sultan Abdülhamid I and Sultan Selim III frequently came to this mosque for Friday processions.
Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Pasha, the Grand Admiral who is said to have walked around with a lion he had tamed and who also served briefly as grand vizier, is a very important statesman in Ottoman history.
