- Changes the building has undergone since its construction
The Saint Antonio Church, built during the Genoese rule, was acquired from the Christians in 1606, and a mosque named after himself was built by Grand Vizier Kemankeş Mustafa Pasha on the ruins of the church in 1642.
The primary school and fountain next to the mosque were added by Reisülküttab Ismail Effendi in 1732.
It was repaired in 1766.
- Prominent features of the mosque
On both sides of the entrance door of the mosque are hexagram motifs, also known as the seal of the Prophet Solomon in Islamic tradition. This motif was popularly used in many Ottoman works.
Its founder, Kemankeş Kara Mustafa Pasha, was nicknamed “Kemankeş” (Archer) due to his archery skills and is considered one of the leading grand viziers of the Ottoman Empire.
