The building was opened for educational use in 1920 as Şaheste Kadın School.
The building was used in the following period with the function of Practical Girls’ Vocational School.
It was used as a Girls’ Vocational High School between 1980 and 1989.
In 1992, the roof underwent major repair and the 80-ton iron water tank on the roof was removed.
In 1994, the Public Education Centre moved into this building, and the building began to be used with this function.

The building is also known by the names Şaheste Kadın School, Maltepe First Primary School, Practical Girls’ Vocational School, and Maltepe Girls’ Vocational High School.
The building was defined as a masonry school; it has a three-level mass arrangement consisting of the ground floor and two upper floors.
The approximate dimensions of the building were given as 16.60 m x 13.10 m, and the building is situated within a rectangular garden.
In the interior, a long corridor arrangement, a steep staircase layout, and room/classroom units distributed across the floors were described.
It has been established that the school known in Maltepe as “Şayeste Kadınefendi Primary School” began education on 14 April 1912.
It is stated that the building is a protected historic monument.
