Featured Highlights
The structure is also known as Şeyhülislâm Esat Efendi Madrasa and Taş Madrasa.
It is located in the courtyard of the İsmail Efendi Mosque, around the intersection of Manyasızade Avenue and İsmailağa Street.
The construction inscription above the entrance gate clearly states the Dar al-Hadith function of the structure.
The portico and cell arrangement around the courtyard forms a “U” scheme; the madrasa contains ten cells.
On the south façade finely cut stone is used, while on the other façades rough-cut stone and alternating brick–cut stone masonry appear in places.
Hedgehog cornices on the façades, lead-covered domes without drums on the roof, and rectangular chimneys are distinctive elements of the structure.
A graveyard is located to the east of the structure; the tomb of the patron is in this graveyard.
