Changes After Construction

  1. The structure, whose construction began in 1893 and was completed in 1902, was built by order of Rıza Pasha, the Commander-in-Chief of Sultan Abdülhamid II.

  2. In 2017, within the scope of earthquake-resistance works, four historical buildings on the campus were reconstructed due to earthquake damage.

  3. Among the historical structures on the campus, which was built in German architecture, only the building known as “Block D” has survived to the present day.

Featured Highlights

  • The buildings are considered to have been part of the hospital campus constructed through the efforts of Bacteriologist Robert Rider, the founding chief physician of Gülhane Military Medical Academy.

  • The school, which took the name Haydarpaşa Art Institute in 1959, became one of our country’s most important vocational high schools for many years by including departments such as fitting, carpentry, electricity, and technical drawing.

  • In 1963, it became the first vocational high school in Türkiye to admit female students.

  • Today, it is used as the National Education Academy.
