Changes After Construction:
The structure was rebuilt in 1816.
Repairs were carried out on the structure in 1851, 1930, and 1946.
In the church record, it is stated that the history of the structure goes back to the 9th century.
Prominent Features:
The church belongs to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Istanbul.
The structure is also known as “Eğrikapı Panagia Church.”
The structure was built with masonry material; its upper covering is tiled.
According to legend, the water of the holy spring beneath the church is accepted as healing for mental illnesses.
Before 1700, a hospital was established to treat the mentally ill in the wooden guesthouse and annexes of the structure.
