Panayia Suda Greek Orthodox Church
Changes After Construction:
- The structure was rebuilt in 1816.
- Repairs were carried out on the structure in 1851, 1930, and 1946.
- In the church record, it is stated that the history of the structure goes back to the 9th century.
Prominent Features:
- The church belongs to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Istanbul.
- The structure is also known as “Eğrikapı Panagia Church.”
- The structure was built with masonry material; its upper covering is tiled.
- According to legend, the water of the holy spring beneath the church is accepted as healing for mental illnesses.
- Before 1700, a hospital was established to treat the mentally ill in the wooden guesthouse and annexes of the structure.
