Changes After Construction
It was built in 1872 for educational purposes by the French Catholic Franciscan Sisters under the name “Saint Elizabeth School.”
During the First World War, it continued its educational function under the Ministry of Education with the name “Cem Sultan Model School.”
In 1959, it was purchased by Mümtaz Tarhan and became the first building of Private Tarhan College.

Mehmet Mümtaz Tarhan, who served as the Governor of Istanbul between 1957 and 1958, is the founder of the educational institutions bearing his name.
The structure bears Levantine and Neoclassical features inspired by the French academic style, which were frequently seen in 19th-century Pera architecture.
The Congregation of Franciscan Sisters, which began its activities in Istanbul in the mid-19th century, is one of the largest Catholic communities founded in Italy in 1209.
