Changes After Construction:
  • The historic building was designed as “Reşadiye Model Primary School” following the Second Constitutional Era and was constructed in 1910.
  • The school functioned as a Model School between 1912 and 1927 and was also used as an ammunition depot by the Kuva-yi Milliye during the War of Independence.
  • In 1957, the campus was expanded while preserving its original identity.
  • The historic building, taken into restoration in 2016, resumed educational activities in 2019 under the name “Reşadiye Imam Hatip Secondary School,” in keeping with the memory of the Sultan.
Prominent Features:
  • The educational institution, which also operated as Eyüp High School and Ebussuut Primary Education School, was constructed next to the tomb of Sultan Mehmed V Reşad, in accordance with his wish: “I would like to spend my eternal rest among the sounds of water and children.”
  • In 1912, the first scouting organization was established here, and in 1915, the first school football team in the Ottoman Empire was formed.
  • Selim Sırrı (Tarcan) Bey, the first physical education teacher in the Ottoman Empire, and sports writer and football instructor Ahmet Hamdi Bey taught at this school.
  • The building, constructed of cut stone, is two stories high with six classrooms and features a vault floor system resting on load-bearing walls.
  • The historic structure, an example of the First National Architectural Movement, includes a domed section along its long side, which was built as a mosque.
