It was damaged in the great fire that occurred in August 1817.
After being repaired in 1818 with the financial support of the Prince of Moldavia, it was rebuilt in 1820.
It is thought to have undergone various additional repairs and arrangements over time.
It was converted into a mosque by adding a mihrab, minbar and minaret in 1933. During the same period, some verses were written in the interior of the building.
The building was restored between 2007-2009.
