Person in the Tomb
Murad Buhari was born in 1640 in Samarkand. He became paralyzed at the age of three and remained disabled for life. He traveled to India and joined Khwaja Muhammad Ma'sum, the son of Imam Rabbani. After completing his pilgrimage, he stayed in the Hejaz for three years, then visited knowledge centers like Baghdad and Isfahan.
In 1669, he settled in Damascus, where he got married. In 1681, he was invited to Istanbul and stayed in Eyüp for five years. He appointed his khalifa Kilisli Ali Efendi as the sheikh of the lodge arranged for him and returned to Damascus in 1097 AH. There, he led spiritual instruction at the Berraniyya Lodge for many years.
In 1708, he went back to Istanbul but was exiled to Alanya by Grand Vizier Çorlulu Ali Paşa, who was disturbed by his influence. He later stayed in Konya, Kütahya, and Bursa, and was in Bursa in 1714. He returned to Istanbul in 1718 and settled in his lodge in Nişanca, Eyüp. He passed away on February 22, 1720, and was buried in the dershane (classroom) of his lodge. He is regarded as the first Sufi to introduce the Naqshbandiyya-Mujaddidiyya order to Anatolia.

Featured Highlights
The grave is in the burial ground next to the lodge. After 1925, the lodge buildings began to deteriorate. The roof of the second mosque collapsed and the dervish cells were damaged.
The harem and selamlık sections were destroyed by locals in 1977 for firewood. In the 1980s, the shantytowns on the land were cleared. During the 1990s, the tevhidhane, madrasa cells, and tomb were restored and used as a stone dormitory. After the year 2000, the dormitory was emptied, and the tomb’s roof collapsed. A comprehensive restoration of the lodge began in 2014.
