About the Person:
  • Known also as Seyyid Seyfi, Seyyid Nizamoğlu, or Sheikh Seyyid Seyfullah Kasım b. Sheikh Seyyid Nizameddin Efendi, he was born in the first half of the 16th century in Istanbul and was an important Sufi affiliated with the Sinaniyya branch of the Halveti order.
  • His father, Sheikh Seyyid Nizameddin Ahmed Efendi, had come to Istanbul from Baghdad during the reign of Yavuz Sultan Selim and established lodges in Kasımpaşa and Silivrikapı. Seyyid Seyfi received his initial training from his father, then became a disciple of Ibrahim Ümmi Sinan, and after completing his spiritual journey (seyr ü sülûk), engaged in guidance activities for many years at the Emirler Lodge in Silivrikapı.
  • He passed away in 1601 and was buried in the cemetery of his lodge. His son Cüneyd and his successor Hakîkîzâde Osman Efendi continued his spiritual legacy. His writings emphasize divine love, reverence for the Ahl al-Bayt, and allegiance to Ja‘fari beliefs; within Sunni Ottoman society, he openly advocated Ja‘fari perspectives, embraced the concept of wahdat al-wujūd (unity of being), reflected Hurufi influences, and criticized the social corruption of his era.

  • The tomb lies on an elevated platform on the right side of the road leading to Silivrikapı. The grave is open to the sky and surrounded by an iron fence.
