Originally from Baghdad, Seyyid Nizam was a 27th-generation descendant of Prophet Muhammad. His father was Shehabeddin Baghdadi. He received his education in the scholarly circles of Qasim Zulfikar Mazenderani in Baghdad and advanced in the path of Sufism. During the reign of Sultan Selim I (Yavuz Sultan Selim), he came to Istanbul and earned the respect of the sultan. He served as the sheikh of the Seyyid Nizam Tekke, mentoring many students and becoming one of the spiritual figures of Istanbul. He was known for his spiritual discourses and reputed miracles.

The Seyyid Nizam Tomb is located within the mosque complex of the same name in Zeytinburnu and complements the mosque architecturally.
The current structure has been restored and is well maintained; its simple and elegant exterior design is completed with a modern portico and entrance area.
The front façade features long rectangular windows that allow natural light to fill the interior.
The tomb is enclosed by iron railings, providing a secure visiting area. Adjacent to the tomb, the mosque’s minaret and large dome, along with the courtyard arrangement and surrounding landscaping, create a serene atmosphere for visitors.
