Changes After Construction
The minaret was damaged by lightning in 1775 and was repaired by Ser Mimaran-ı Hassa (Head Architect of the Palace).
It underwent extensive repairs between 1975 and 1977, the narthex was rebuilt and the building was opened for worship.
In 2010, a restoration work was carried out by the Regional Directorate of Foundations.
Featured Highlights
It is a building with masonry walls and a wooden roof. There are 9-10 steps leading down to the courtyard, and its mihrab protrudes outwards. The base of the minaret is made of two rows of bricks and one row of cut stone.
The narthex was rebuilt in 1975 and has a portico supported by 9 wooden columns. The roof is wooden and the entrance door is not in the middle of the building but on the side.
The windows have wooden shutters, and the chains and knobbed bars on them have been preserved in their original state.
In the graveyard of the mosque is the grave of its founder, Sofu Kara Ali Çavuş; there is an inscription on its stone dated 1785.
It is also known as Çavuş Ali Ağa Masjid.
