Changes After Construction

  1. All that remains from the mosque today are a minaret, a passage and a low wall.

  2. Since it has no inscription, the exact date of construction is unknown.

  3. Over time, the building has become a touristic area beyond its original purpose.

Featured Highlights

  • It was designed by Mimar Sinan and built for Grand Vizier Sokullu Mehmet Pasha.

  • The building is also known as the ‘Köprübaşı Mosque’.

  • It has an octagonal, monolithic (made by carving a single piece of stone) minaret, which is unique in Türkiye. The only similar structure in the world is in Egypt.

  • There is a balcony-like pavilion on the minaret and the stone railings of the octagonal body are built in rubble stone style.

  • It is one of the three mosques with the same name built by Mimar Sinan in Istanbul.
