Changes After Construction
In 1832, by imperial decree, a place of worship known in the neighborhood as the “Priest’s residence” was built together with its baptistery.
With the permission obtained by Harutyun Amira Bezciyan, this place of worship was enlarged and converted into a church; the Boğosyan-Varvaryan School was built beside it.
In 1855, a construction decree was obtained, the building process was completed, and the church was opened for worship by Hagopos III Seropyan.
The Byzantine wall immediately behind the altar has been preserved in its original form.
During the period of Madteos İzmirliyan, the building was constructed in masonry by the brothers Hovhannes and Mıgırdiç Esayan.
The adjacent Boğosyan-Varvaryan School was closed and is used for different activities of the community.
Featured Highlights
The church belongs to the Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey.
It has been recorded that the Byzantine wall immediately behind the altar of the church has been preserved in its original form.
It is stated that benefactors are buried in the church courtyard and that their names and dates are listed in the patriarchal record.
