It is understood from two inscriptions that the Armenian community in Kandilli had a place of worship in 1841 and, since there had previously been no permanent building, worshipped under a tent.
The present church was built and opened for worship in 1846.
It was renovated in 1893; this process resulted in a slight enlargement compared with the church’s original form.
It underwent repairs in 1962 and 1985.
Following the restoration carried out in 2012, the building was opened for worship.
