Changes After Construction
The structure was rebuilt many times after the earlier church of the 16th century.
The present building was rebuilt and completed in 1896–1899.
Featured Highlights
The church belongs to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Istanbul.
It is also known as Aya Strati Taksiarhi Greek Orthodox Church.
The inscription of the structure associates its construction with Muzuros Pasha.
Its plan follows the closed Greek cross scheme, and a dome is used in the main space.
There is a bell tower on the western axis.
To its southwest is the Ayia Paraskevi parekklesion.
On the exterior facade is the Greek phrase “Deute pros me” (in Turkish, “Bana geliniz”), taken from Matthew 11:28.
To the south of the naos is the family graveyard of Muzuros Pasha.
