Changes After Construction
The mosque was damaged by the earthquake that occurred in Istanbul on July 10, 1894. Repairs were carried out in 1895.
In 1906, the lead parts of the mosque were damaged in various places by a storm. Thereupon, the lead parts were provided from the Sultan's Foundation Treasury and the other damaged parts were repaired.
It underwent repairs during the Republic period and was restored and reopened for worship in 2023.
Featured Highlights
The mosque, which consists of a rectangular prayer hall oriented north-south and a narthex portico located to the north of the prayer hall, has its prayer hall covered with a flat wooden ceiling from the inside.
There is a polygonal minaret with a square base at the north end of the east facade of the narthex. The two-story Sultan's Lodge (Hünkar Mahfili) is located to the northwest of the mosque.
It is a rectangular mosque with masonry walls and a wooden roof.
It has a single minaret which is made of cut stone.
There is a Timing Room (Muvakkithane) on the sea side and the mosque is located in a large courtyard.
Throughout history, it has been the main place for the Muslims of Arnavutköy for worship, funerals and holiday gatherings.
