In the graveyard located in the mosque courtyard, Tütüncü (“tobacco seller”) Mehmed Efendi, one of the first industrialists of the Ottoman Empire, his wife, his mother-in-law, his granddaughter, his nephew and the first imam of the mosque, Kemal Effendi, are buried.
The mosque bears the name of Tütüncü Mehmet Efendi, who played an important role in the development of Göztepe and its shaping as a residential area.
The funeral of historian and writer Reşat Ekrem Koçu was also held in this mosque.
