Changes After Construction
The bell tower dates to 1895.
The church underwent repairs in 1956 and 1985.
Featured Highlights
The church belongs to the Armenian Catholic Patriarchate of Turkey.
It is the only Armenian Catholic church in the Princes’ Islands.
The consecration and opening date of the church is August 15, 1858, and this date was aligned with the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
In the worship hall, whose arched ceiling is supported by columns, there is a marble plaque preserving the memory of Andon Ağa Apelyan; in accordance with his will, Apelyan was buried inside the church.
There is a circular rose window above the entrance door; on the side of the entrance opening toward the worship space, there are a choir balcony and an organ.
The interior receives daylight from three large windows on each of the two walls.
