Changes After Construction
During the Republican period, the structure/institution continued its educational service under the name "Kartal-Yakacık Primary School."
Due to the increasing population, Mahmut Bey, the son of Hasanpaşa, had five additional classrooms built in the same building.
The existing building became operational in the 1968–1969 academic year under the name "Yakacık Middle School."
As student demand increased, a new 12-classroom building was constructed in the same area by the Special Provincial Administration; the structure/institution began operating in the 1982–1983 academic year under the name "Yakacık Primary Education School."
The building was later transferred to special education; since 1989, it has served individuals with intellectual disabilities under the name "Yakacık Occupational School for Educable Children."
The structure/institution served under the names "Yakacık Vocational School" and "Yakacık Vocational Training Center," respectively; following the regulation dated December 18, 2004, its name became "Yakacık Occupational School."
With the ministry approval dated August 2, 2010, the name of the institution was changed to "Yakacık Special Education Vocational Training Center."
Featured Highlights
The structure/institution has been used historically under the names "Kartal-Yakacık Primary School," "Yakacık Middle School," "Yakacık Primary Education School," "Yakacık Occupational School for Educable Children," "Yakacık Vocational Training Center," and "Yakacık Occupational School."
The school building was commissioned by Kaptan-ı Derya Hasanpaşa in 1901; it began its educational service in 1902 with two classrooms.
The addition of five more classrooms to the same building by Mahmut Bey indicates that the structure was expanded at an early stage in response to the increasing population.
The building consists of two stories; the 1st floor houses the boiler room, guidance service, and various workshops (e.g., handicrafts, furniture-decoration, beauty, and hair care) as well as wet areas.
The 2nd floor contains classrooms, administrative units (principal and assistant principal offices), the teachers' room, and workshops (e.g., decorative arts, weaving).
