In the 1880s, land was purchased for the present building; because the construction permit was delayed, an unlicensed wooden chapel was used on the parcel for a period.
For a time, worship continued in the chapel inside the “Bible House” building on Fincancılar Yokuşu.
With the permit dated 1911, construction of the present church building (and the school building later moved there) began.
After the First World War, the church was opened for worship in 1921.
Prominent Features:
The church belongs to the Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey.
In the sources, the building is referred to as the “Armenian Bible (Protestant) Church.”
The complex is located within a walled courtyard; the parcel is described as lying between Gedikpaşa Avenue and Bali Paşa Slope.
The establishment of the Protestant Armenian community in Gedikpaşa is dated to 1850.
