Changes After Construction:
  • In the 1880s, land was purchased for the present building; because the construction permit was delayed, an unlicensed wooden chapel was used on the parcel for a period.
  • For a time, worship continued in the chapel inside the “Bible House” building on Fincancılar Yokuşu.
  • With the permit dated 1911, construction of the present church building (and the school building later moved there) began.
  • After the First World War, the church was opened for worship in 1921.
Prominent Features:
  • The church belongs to the Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey.
  • In the sources, the building is referred to as the “Armenian Bible (Protestant) Church.”
  • The complex is located within a walled courtyard; the parcel is described as lying between Gedikpaşa Avenue and Bali Paşa Slope.
  • The establishment of the Protestant Armenian community in Gedikpaşa is dated to 1850.
