Changes After Construction:
  • Official repairs were carried out in 1869 and 1889.
  • After the fire of 1918, those left homeless used the structure as a shelter.
  • The structure was registered in 1962.
  • For a period, it was allocated to the Karagümrük Youth Club; later, different periods of institutional allocation and closure were recorded.
  • One study states that the structure was used for a period as a Qur’an course and that it was vacant as of 1998.
Prominent Features:
  • It is also known as Kadı Halil Madrasa and Kara Halil Efendi Madrasa.
  • It is one of the examples of the independent madrasa type.
  • The entrance axis of the rectangular courtyard and the axis of the courtyard are on the same line; since the entrance is higher than the street level, it is reached by steps.
