Surp Nişan Armenian Church
Changes After Construction:
- Before the church, there was a chapel in the area toward the end of the 16th century.
- The masonry church was rebuilt and opened for worship in 1857.
- The church underwent interior and exterior renovation in 1985.
- The church was repaired in 1998; it was consecrated and opened for worship by Archbishop Mesrob, Locum Tenens of the Patriarchate.
- The repair work started in mid-2014 reached its final stage in August 2015.
Prominent Features:
- The church belongs to the Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey.
- The church is also known as the “Holy Cross Church.”
- The church belongs to the Armenian Apostolic tradition.
- In the courtyard is the grave of Father Nişan, the priest of the church.
- The church is actively used on important days and especially during the Feast of the Virgin Mary in August.
